About Us
Project Upokul is a coastal and marine research institute and academic platform aims to deliver evidence-based research for develop coastal economy, foster maritime security, business, trade and international shipping, marine biodiversity conservation, ocean governance, blue economy, disaster risk management, and the Indo-Pacific Affairs.
Operating across three coastal zones (The West Coast, Central Coast, and East Coast), Project Upokul currently works in 19 coastal districts and 11 small islands in the Bay of Bengal. The institute’s multidisciplinary approach encompasses 32 distinct sectors of coastal development, reflecting a deep commitment to understanding and improving the socio-economic, environmental, and strategic dimensions of Bangladesh’s coastal regions. Apart from coastal research, the institute has a special focus on water and river management.
The founder of this project is Mr. Muhammad Irfan Sadik, a student in International Relations and a young, versatile researcher. He is currently pursuing his M.S.S. in International Relations at Jahangirnagar University.
What We Do
At Project Upokul, we explore the dynamics of Bangladesh’s coastal and marine regions through innovative, evidence-based research. Our work focuses on strengthening the coastal economy, ensuring maritime security, promoting blue economy prospects, and protecting marine biodiversity and ocean governance.
Furthermore, we also address vital issues such as climate resilience, disaster management, and water and river management- bridging research and policy to create lasting impact.
Operating across three coastal regions and eleven islands and working within thirty-two specialized sectors, Project Upokul turns knowledge into action to build a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous coastal future.
